Some dear friends of ours recently opened a tanning bar in a building that used to be the Stat Scrip Pharmacy.
When we stopped by to check the progress of the reno, I noticed that the old metal pharmacy signage was still on the wall over the shop. Of course I immediately offered to climb up a ladder and take it down……. if I could have the letters. I didn’t even have too, the landlord had it removed for me. After a good wash (to remove layers of pigeon poop) and pulling out the unworking neon,
I spelled out RATS on the den wall……
I suppose I could have spelled STAR…..but that doesn’t sound very fun.
Kinda “Girley” actually,
Here’s another shot of the mantle close up…..
Lennon, Jesus, a random chest X-ray, a buckle Jamie won showing horses, and alter candles that were a house-warming gift……all set off by the black brick Jamie primed and painted on our first day of home-ownership. The fireplace used to be badly painted lime-cream-yellow, if that is even a color.
Now it is a sharp, not-to-black, Ralph Lauren granite.
I still have the PHARMACY letters in the garage and think I may hang them on the outside garage wall after we build the deck……
Time will tell.
After a fun visit from my God-Son Winston on his spring break, we decided to tackle painting the guest room. I asked him how he slept , and he told me that there were too many pillows on the bed to get comfortable… I’m pretty sure he has never slept on a bed with decorative pillows before, and since when is 11 pillows too many ?
Here's Winston at the 6th floor musuem.....he was really excited ( I know it shows on his face )
Other than the bathrooms and garage, this is the last room in the house to get paint ….and the gloss white walls have really been glaring at me lately. Now, at some point the room had been painted fluorescent green, not Kelly green, not even chartruse…actual freaking nuclear meltdown green. It seemed to glow from the poorly painted corners, and the floor moulding where the quarter round had never been replaced after the previous owner installed the hardwood floor. I just happened to have enough quarter round in the garage…and the chop saw is by far my favorite thing that the old owner left behind.
We took everything out, even the ceiling fan… I love a crisp white ceiling,…… and painted the entire room a fresh khaki with gloss white trim….just like every other room (except the office, which is a cool blue ). I even gave the bed and side table a new coat of gloss black. The curtains are drop cloths from Home Depot , grometted with shower curtain rings to plumbing pipe.
I know , same picture as before, but what a difference the paint and curtains make
Our collection of western belts on a kiva ladder from El Paso
Last Week we had the possibility of the first overnight guest in months, so we took the dog kennel out of the guest room and made the bed. I used the new red/black pillows from the outlet and one of the bullion decorative throw pillows that were a Christmas gift from some dear friends. Then I put down the Red Navajo rug Jamie brought back from an El Paso trip a few weeks ago………and ya know what? It’s not a bad-looking little room. I desperately need to warm up those gloss white walls with some khaki paint….and, of course, curtains.
It’s almost a shame to fill it back up with a dog cage……..
