I’m sick of hearing about “Resale Value”.
Who honestly cares what the next people who live in your house will think?
We live in this house now, God willing for the next 30 – 40 years, and we’re going to make this OUR house.
The way that we want it, and for the way that we live in it.
That being said…….we want a master bathroom with colored tile. (cue gasp)
A color like turquoise.
Specifically, this turquoise.
The color of my vintage Fiestaware sugar bowl.
Stunning, ain’t it?
Turquoise reminds us of the water in Hawaii, jewelry shopping in Santa Fe, and vintage Fiestaware sugar bowls for some reason…..
It looks like this in un-glazed 2 inch ceramic tile form…….
“Ocean Blue” it’s called, from Daltile.
Took a bit of work to get 144 square feet of it.
You can only look at tile in the Daltile showroom, can’t purchase there, and can’t purchase on their website either. (In fact, even the showroom person didn’t know of any tile dealers that we could purchase it from) When we finally did find a dealer, Daltile had so little in stock that we had to wait 3 months for them to make it for us. All from one dye-lot, mind you. Guess where you pick the tile up from? Daltile….sort of. Not the showroom, we were told after waiting in line there for 20 minutes, but their warehouse a few short miles away from the showroom. Naturally, the Daltile warehouse attendants couldn’t find our tile in their warehouse. And for some reason our tile dealer hadn’t paid for it yet (3 months after we paid them……..they also charged us about 70% more than Daltile charged them. Just for placing the order) and we had to wait for the warehouse Einsteins to sort it all out.
Once everything was solved…..an hour later……they asked us if we wanted them to leave it on the pallet.
Just how much did we buy? 350 pounds, apparently.
That’s just 6 boxes. (Accounting for 20% more than I think we need)
Anyhoo……it’s sitting in a stack in the garage. Waiting for us to install it…..
Which should be soon.
Ohhh, God I hope it’s soon,
I love that color. I can’t wait to see how it finishes your bathroom.
Same here Nikki, anxiously waiting for it to be done with….
Turquoise should be the color that replaces WHITE, GRAY & BLACK.
Turquoise is the new BLACK. It’s an amazing color. Love it.
Makes us happy! Isn’t that the most important part?
Welcome to the world of remodeling!!
And you are so right!!! Did the people you bought the house from care what you thought when they were decorating the house? No they did not! You decorate the way you want! Who in their right mind would want to change it?!?!y’all have excellent taste! It will stand for ever! And apparently will also look good in your 2nd bathroom since apparently you ordered more than enough! 😉
I promise you that the previous owner of the Cavender house had no care for us whatsoever……have I mentioned the 7 different kinds of flooring in our house?
It’s lovely. And, you can never please all the people all the time so enjoy it. 🙂
Just pleasing us, Judy!
LOVE your color choice. I actually almost picked that color for my kitchen island. I’m so with you about making your home the way you want it to be. I’m having an island installed in my kitchen and my color for the cabinets is Cote D’ Azur (B.Moore). I’ve gotten the same response about resale. I love your design and color choices for your home. Inspirational! I can’t wait to see your bathroom. I want to redo mine in the near future!
Cote D’ Azur sounds heavenly……aren’t you just tired of white cabinets too???? That’s all any of the lady-bloggers have in their homes. Pretty safe/ boring. If us ask me……
I love it, I love it, I love! I love that you follow your hearts desire. Who cares what anyone else thinks! Can’t wait to see the end results . Take care.
You’re really going to love it when we’re finished……..some day
I’m jumping up and down on the inside … Love it! Can’t wait to see it!
So glad that we’re helping your get your inside exercise.
Oh, my…I cannot wait to see how the bathroom progresses with this turquoise tile.
Turquoise has always been a favorite of mine, in fact, it’s my birthstone. Technically, so it blue zircon…but it’s a washed out, dull blue…thankfully, we December babies have turquoise to fall back on. BRING ON THE TURQUOISE!
PS For a 70% mark up, they could have at least delivered the tile to your house for you…geesh. Now, what are you going to make from the “free” pallet the tile came with. 😉
Turquoise is a pretty magic stone….and yes, they should have delivered
um, holy crap! well…i trust ya’lls vision! thanks for documenting all your work. we appreciate it. learning a lot!
Don’t worry Doni…….it will be awesome
The turquoise is going to look stunning!!! So very Y’ALL and that is all that matters!
I Googled a few other turquoise bathrooms…….but nothing looks as cool as ours will be
It’s beautiful! So gorgeous, I had to reign myself in or I would have typed that in all caps. 🙂 Great choice of colour, I can’t wait to see how the tile looks installed!
We’re so glad that you’re excited
My favorite color. Love the sugar bowl. Hope everything goes well from now on.
My favorite color to , after orange of course. The drama is over….should be smooth from here on out
Love it! You both have such great taste in your decorating and DIY pieces. I just know it will look wonderful when your done.
Yes, it’s a bold choice. But I bet it’s going to be killer! I hope you plan to whine about the 70% markup.
Carole, I whine about everything………
Wow, nice choice! I love colors like this. If’n and when I ever find the right house IN my budget, I will do accent walls, and may WELL do a bright red with bright white, similar to what you ended up going with in your master bath. Where I work, a similar type of white is used there with accent walls of gray and it looks fantastic, so red with the right white will work great and let the red wall reflect off the white…
Anyway, can’t wait to see this up on the wall(s) and the whole room painted etc. Should look very nice indeed!
Love this! Turquoise is one of the colors I like and other similar type colors too for that matter.
I can’t wait to see this all installed with the white you chose, which, BTW, I thought when I saw the post that the lower right white sample would be your choice, reading down, I was right!
I intend to use a similar white myself, but use it with accent walls so the color of the wall will reflect off the white for a mod look if I find the right house to so this in.
You knew that we had to offset all that crisp white with something bold.
Of course I did! I’m SO sick of all white bathrooms and this resale value thang in a home, blech.
Can’t wait to see it! I love turquoise and sea colors, have it in my home too. Your house should reflect you and all that you love. So far, I would say it does exactly that and look at all of us out here just loving it! By the way, I had a Daltile nightmare some twenty years ago; I see not much has changed.
Thanks Tracie. I wouldn’t say “nightmare”…..but they certainly aren’t customer service oriented.
I am out of my mind excited to see the finished bathroom! Turquoise/aqua are my favorite colors. How do these people/manufacturers stay in business when their customer services sucks?
Love the turquoise and the Fiestaware!
