Yupp,
There used to be a door from our garage to the backyard. See? Right there in the corner.
It was painted Linda Blair puke-green, like the garage, when we moved in.
When we painted the garage to match the rest of the house, “Sweet-Cream”, I think, it continued to disappear.
We don’t use it. There’s also a door from the kitchen to the garage.
Don’t think we ever have. Behind it is behind a row of metro shelving holding precious things.
When we decided to build the deck, there was a brief….extremely brief….discussion about whether we really needed it at all.
We don’t.
Was it worth the hassle, and lost storage, of moving it up 2 feet and building a platform for it inside the garage?
It’s not.
(Pretty sure I covered the back side in cedar planking anyway……Oooops.)
So it’s going Bu-Bye, …….sort of
Jamie pried off the trim from around the edges.
Then he built a 2X4 frame inside the door jamb – directly over the fiberglass door.
Set inside exactly 1/2 inch.
The perfect depth for a 1/2″ sheet of pressure-treated plywood…..
….so it was flush with the exterior wall.
I went around the edges and seams with exterior caulk……
…..and painted it the same color as the exterior of the house/garage…..again.
Then we had the deck built around it.
Just like that…..
No more door.
I know, it’s not perfect.
But we think we have a plan to re-clad the side of the garage with something anyway. Maybe corrugated sheet metal. Maybe barn wood.
Dunno,
Somethin’ cool, that’s for sure.
Stay tuned,
You guys are brilliant ! What a smart idea! Love the new deck and how you styled it looks fantastic! Take care and have a fantastic day!😃
