Here’s a great little gift idea that we have been giving for years now.
A movie night in a bowl.
Our dear friend Joni surprised us with one recently, and the best part of all….she included her recipe for savory popcorn.
Jamie printed a recipe card so we can keep passing on Joni’s delicious popcorn to all you kind folks……(just save this jpg, print it on card stock and cut it out)
I used Jamie’s card on a lunch bag of popcorn kernels.
You could always add a microwave popcorn packet, but they are terrible for you. The salt, the glue, the oil…….Yuck
This is much more personal.
And wayyyyyy more delicious,
I premeasured a cup of popcorn kernels into a brown paper bag, folded it a couple of times and tied it with string.
Then slipped Joni’s recipe card on top.
Grab some movie theater sized candy,
The big ones.
And sodas. We use Mexican Cokes in bottles.
What’s the difference?
Mexican Coke is still made with cane sugar, not corn syrup.
There’s a difference, trust me.
I popped a cup of popcorn to use as a filler in my movie bowl.
Then slipped all my goodies into a microwave-safe bowl, tallest items in the back, and used tape (lots of tape) and popped popcorn to hold everything in place.
Oh yeah, don’t forget to add a movie…or an Itunes gift card, but a movie is better.
Perhaps, The Great Gatsby…….
And that’s all there is to this……
‘Course Joni takes it a step further and adds socks.
Socks, isn’t that clever?
Anyhoo,
Give one of these easy gift bowls for a housewarming…
or birthday…..
or just to someone who deserves a night in.
I love this. A few years ago, my daughter had a “Horton Hears a Who” movie party with all her BFFs joining her at the theater. After the obligatory cake and ice cream at our place, they left with a stuffed Horton and one of those tall, plastic red & white popcorn containers (from the $1 bin at Tarjay) crammed full of “movie” candy and bags of popcorn. Making it a housewarming gift is a super idea.
Party gift is a pretty clever idea as well….
Great basket! As to the Coke it’s been years since I had one as my husband and I won’t eat or drink anything with corn (including of course high-fructose corn syrup) but I recently discovered that for two weeks at Passover you can buy Kosher Coke here in Ontario with sugar cane or sugar beets. The Coke is sold at stores in Jewish neighbourhoods but they say it sells out fast.
Sugar beets sounds great! I’m not a big soda drinker either, as kids we only had Coke on special occasions. Like at a movie……maybe that’s where I make that association
I just can’t wait to make this gift “bowl”! It will be my new “go-to” gift! Thanks so much for sharing!
It’s been our go to gift for years…… We need new friends, I think we’ve given one to everyone we know by now
